    PNS Zulfiquar reaches flood-hit Sri Lanka with relief goods

    Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Zulfiquar has reached flood-hit Sri Lanka to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.


    Flooding and landslides have killed at least 200 people and left hundreds of others missing in Sri Lanka as the monsoon set in on Friday, dumping record rainfalls in many parts of the island.
    Over 77,000 have been displaced and over 1,500 homes destroyed
    PNS Zulfiquar has reached Colombo carrying relief goods, paramedical facilities and medicines.
    The relief goods include fresh and dry rations, bedding equipment, medicines and suctions pumps.
    The Pakistan Navy has set up several medical camps in the affected areas where medical officers and paramedical staff are treating the flood-hit population.

    The ship’s teams are providing assistance in decontaminating drinking water in wells using special equipment
    The ship’s diving teams are clearing under-water obstructions from rivers. Its embarked helicopter, Alouette, which can lift heavy loads, and high speed rescue boats are being used for rescue operations.
    The Sri Lankan political and military leaderships have lauded the Pakistan Navy’s swift response and expressed gratitude to the people of Pakistan in general and the Pakistan Navy in particular.
