MULTAN,April 23rd: A fourteen year old Muhammad Shahid committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope because his father Hafiz ManzoorAhmed was in prison on the charge of desecration of pages of Holy Quran by burning these pages. The prayer leader of a mosque was arrested in village Gujran wali (Suraj Miani) Multan Surjani Miani three years ago on the complaint of an opponent . His son was pursuing the case but no one was ready to listen him. Consequently, he fed up and preferred to die. His body was preserved in the morgue of Nishtar Hospital Multan. It is stated that it is a routine matter that torn pages of Quran and other religious book are burnt in the mosque and its ash is put in the river or canal water. In this case,Police did not do any investigation and sent a prayer leader to prison under blasphemy law for allegedly burning pages of the Holy Quran.Public prosecutor said the cleric was arrested at his home under the blasphemy law three years ago."By putting these torn pages in the ashes he also committed desecration of the Holy Koran and he is being charged with blasphemy," he said.The cleric is produced before the court blindfolded and handcuffed and guarded by armed police commandos. Police did not let even his son to meet him and exchange views.Prosecutor said the allegations against him were concocted.Some reports have said the cleric Manzoor Ahmed was a poor person whose income was alm donated by the people and his case has prompted concern from Western governments and anger from rights groups, who warn the blasphemy legislation is often abused to settle personal vendettas.
